I think it is to keep the area as clean as possible, lol, if that is even possible. Always wondered that myself.

In tribal societies, only the best breeders were allowed to impregnate the women. Alternate means were provided for those that were not destined to pass on their seed. The hair provided a natural lubricant that was later extracted as the original vaseline.
The term comes from an ancient Hindu dialect. Some call it sutraline, but they are just trying to be funny.

You are all on the wrong path. I've done some experimenting and have come to the conclusion that butt hairs are a sort of MUFFLER. The more hair you have the quiter your flatulence will be. Don't believe me? Try it for youself. Find a real hairy one, and listen or record the gasses exiting after a good chili feed. Then shave that same a**hole clean and listen again.... quite quiet isn't it.
It's a muffler I tell ya.

You make it sound like we do it on purpose! Most animals still have more hair there than humans. I somehow don't think buttock hair has anything to do with evolutionary advantage. We have the sense to keep the area clean, anyway...or should.

why do adults grow hair anywhere the way we do? and why are women expected to be smoothe while men can be either hirsute or smoothe?...
my answers to your question and my own are.... i havent a clue lol...just a hormone/ hereditary thing i suppose. i dont think its evolutionary in the sense that it is an advantage, maybe just a remnant/vestige of when we were the species that was related to apes?
hair can grow as a reaction to stress i believe, so maybe the answer lies therein?...

I suppose you would rather be a baboon, who grows hair everywhere except between the buttocks. At least we don't go around proudly displaying that area off like a baboon, but maybe if we had big red butts, we would.

humans evolved through monkeys right? Well their hairy, in time humans evolve very slowly so the process of removing those hairs may take a couple more millium. If thats to slow for ya i just recommend a quick shave down below.

I never thought of that specific spot, good question. One difference is that we are prob the only animal that has that area well-hidden, i wonder if that has something to do with it.
It's quite possible that it's a sexual selection thing. People with their brown-eye all exposed just weren't getting the dates that the others were.

Haha, 2 funny.
Two popular theories on why you get hair "down there":
1. Signify to others that you are mature and ready to reproduce
2. Catch pheremones to attract potential mates.
We've totally sped passed evolution in this respect ;)

Probably for the same reason kids have hair between their ears...it seems to catch the run-off. I can tell you don't have that problem...you must be smooth as a baby.

LOL I Don't know, I Think Evolution missed it - Maybe its to keep things outa there, like a forested fortress of solitude...but it sucks - Medical science should make it a priority to cure.
