the same as any business...figure up your expenses. Feed is the big one but figure your time too. If your expenses come to $150 then divide by 50 and that's your break even cost $3. It's not unusual for stores to double it. Only you know what your expenses are - consider the facts for break even then consider your profit. Everyone - including farmers - need to profit.

Try to get 10 dollars per chicken. Strike a deal if they but 4 or more. And my chickens ate me out of house and home when we let them grow till 8 wks instead of 6 wks. Perdue wants itleast 10 dollars for a roaster on sale. Meat should be more tender at 6 wks too and you won't be out so much in feed costs. We grew 50 meat birds early this year and after 6 wks they could go through a 50 pound bag in 2 and 1/2 days! Wasn't cost effective for us to keep them that long and only people in the know knew they were getting a good deal at 10 dollars a head. P.S. Check out what a company is chargin on the Internet or roasting chickens. You'll be shocked. I think it was 38 dollars!

$7 is quite reasonable. I've actually seen some around here go for $9-10 a piece. It all depends on your market area. Try going a little bit higher than what you would accept as your lowest. If they don't sell fast, lower it a little. You always want to go over your price a little to compensate for haggling.

If you are raising these for meat, they are obviously not pets. So why is this in the pet section? Masybe you should ask in the cooking/cuisine section????
