Almost every time I reply to a question about bi girls in the GLBTQ area I have to first do away with the bisexual myths. So I was wondering which ones you have heard of, if any, and if you knew they were myths from the beginning or did you think they were true? Why so or why not? And do you know better now? Do you have any friends who are bi?

Myth: There’s no such thing as bisexuality.
Reality: Bisexuality is a genuine sexual orientation, just like homosexuality and heterosexuality. Bisexual people have existed throughout history.

Myth: Bisexuality is just a phase. “Bisexual” people will eventually wind up being either gay or straight.
Reality: Many people identify as bisexual for their entire lifetimes.

Myth: Bisexual people just can’t make up their minds.
Reality: Bisexual people are often very comfortable and settled with themselves and their sexuality.

Myth: Bisexual people have multiple partners and/or can’t have monogamous relationships.
Reality: Although some stereotypes assert that bisexual people can’t commit to relationships with one person because they’re always attracted to people of the other gender, bisexual people are no more or less likely to have multiple sexual partners than gay, lesbian and straight people.

Myth: Bisexual people face less discrimination than gay, lesbian and transgender people.
Reality: The entire gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community faces discrimination. In 33 states, for example, it’s still legal to fire bisexual people based solely on their sexual orientation, just as it is for gays and lesbians. And bisexual people face unique problems in society due to the common myths and stereotypes about bisexuality.

Reply to post: That’s a very hypocritical thing to say Vincent. There are people that would say you are not really gay but straight and confused. There are true bisexuals. And I’m bi. I know how I feel and who I feel for. Love is love.

I don't know if this is a myth, but it is difficult to be bisexual because you become invistable. If you're dating a member of the same sex, people assume you're gay. If you're dating the opposite sex, people assume you're straight. In straight settings you have to put up with people saying anti-gay crap because they think there are no homos in the room. In gay settings you have to put up with anti-bi crap because they assume everyone is monosexual.

It sucks :-/

I used to be bi-or at least I said I was, I knew then that I was lying though. I don't believe any of those myths about bisexuality, I never have. You love who you love, just as people use the argument that love is colorblind as well as gender-blind (sorry, couldn't find a better word) it still fits. I've known bi people to be promiscuous just as I have known straight people to be. Although I do use the term "riding the fence" and always have, even among my bi friends. I don't see anything wrong with being bi, you've just got the best of both worlds!

myths like : bi today, gay tomorrow. suck and all the others do too. i believe that bisexuality is very hard thing to deal with, i know i cant bare to even handle or justify my actions due to it. worse i can find a partner willing to accept it. they are women, or gay men that wont stand for it. and other bi's that wont settle down feeling that it makes them either gay or straight. i do know that i hate it what ever did it too me, my childhood, past, or something my mom ate, smoked, or drank.

the only thing i, you, or anyone in this situatition is breathe, accept, and be true to yourself.. . after all WE are the ones that have to answer in the end right?...if there is a ending like that, could someone tell me where costomer service is?.... JE -SU-S, i like leave messeges all damn day and no replies?, what gives.

"i could want to initiate off by asserting i'm a gay adolescent and not a troll." i desire so. truly i do no longer desire so because asking if a sexuality exists while lots of people p.c. out as that's verging on ridiculous. No offense, i do no longer think of you're stupid or something, it merely sounds like it may be obtrusive. "am I the only one that believes and/or feels that being bisexual isn't something yet a fantasy or an excuse?" No, yet you're incorrect. there is no longer something combating a guy or woman from being drawn to greater or decrease than one intercourse, different than being a diverse sexuality. i'm pansexual, that's fairly on an identical internet site as bisexuality in this question, and that i actually am drawn to human beings regardless of their intercourse or gender. "i do no longer advise to sound harsh yet definitely everyone i comprehend who has onced claimed to be bisexual finally ends up being the two gay or without delay." very own adventure isn't comparable to definitely everyone doing it. some human beings like me have had the unlucky adventure of maximum folk they have met in genuine life being asshats, that does no longer advise definitely everyone seems to be. fact is, you have in basic terms met a small fraction of each and every of the individuals who p.c. out as bisexual. "I truthfully want to fulfill or touch a real bisexual guy or woman." And yet you do no longer think of they are genuine so does not think of a guy or woman skill it in the event that they suggested they are. Am I the only one seeing the contradictions those 2 recommendations make? @ValBushido whats up, ambidextrous became my occasion :P @Sierra pass stay in a flamethrower. some human beings asserting they are bisexual while they are not does no longer advise there are no actual bisexuals.

I have a male friend who is bisexual. He drifts from being strongly interested in males back to being strongly interested in females. He's 40 years old and highly sexually charged and active, but in general, when he's in a relationship with someone of one gender, he loses interest in the opposite gender, though he continues to crave more members of the gender to which he is currently connected. I've known him 20 years, so I'm pretty convinced that he is truly bisexual.

Well, I'm technically considered bi just because I don't believe love sees gender, just like it doesn't see race or religion.

Myths I've heard are that people are only bi so they can get twice as much action, it's just a phase, etc.

I am a Bi Femme and yes, I have heard them all. I never believed a single one, since I know myself well enough not to fall prey to others ignorance. I have been called "greedy" by a hetro ("I prefer non-discriminatory, unlike you", was my response) and a "fencesitter" by the gay community ("the view is great from up here!"). Either way, I like to say to any critics of bi's, they are all jealous because they are sexually challenged....
