No. In actual fact gunmetal is a bronze from which gun barrels were made.

A Russian cannon, made from gunmetal, was captured during the Crimean War.

ALL of the Victoria Crosses awarded since then have been made from it.

'Gun Metal Grey' is a colour more resembling the cast iron cannon.

You cannot copyright a color. You can only copyright the name associated with that color. In the instance of "gunmetal grey" this name of the color cannot be copyrighted because the word "gunmetal" is descriptive to a particualr type material. If I had a color that I called "charcoal black" or "ice white" I could not copyright those colors due to the fact that they are descriptive of common substances.

Now if I were to have a shade of blue that I called "Joe K. Blue" I could copyright it. I could not copyright the specific color itself but I could copyright that as the name associated with that color so that nobody else could leagally offer a product or service using "Joe K. Blue" by name without my consent.
