If you are the type of person who is never satified with what you have, then yes, because you always desire something more - the grass on the other side will always seem better to you as a result. It's a matter of perspective also, it may be the same, but what you have close to you seems worse because you can see it clearer and can be more critical of it. So the grass further away seems better because you cant see it as well (you cant know how it really is till you get there).

Because everyone lies about how good they have it! Misery loves company!
It does seem sometimes like everyone else is doing better, and that grass might be greener on the other side. In reality, happiness comes from with in us, and everything else is just lust and greed.
Everyone wants more, even Bill Gates wants more!

No. The grass is not always greener on the other side. There is always someone in this world with worst problems than you.

On the side of what? If it's next to desert sand, for sure it looks greener. If beside dead grass, definitely. On the right side, maybe not. On the left, possibly.

it is difficult to cut the grass at the side, so it grows longer and creates the feeling that it is greener.

Yes. The grass in the middle has usually been tramped upon by a bunch of hooligans.

Doesn't matter which side.. I prefer Erma Bombeck's take of it... the grass is always greener over the septic tank.

It always appears greener. It is in our nature to want what we can't have.
