Depends on where you're staying but in my first year at university I was in a hall of residence and shared a kitchen with 8 other guys. We only had one fridge with a tiny freezer compartment so there was never enough room to store any frozen food and hardly enough room to store basics such as milk eggs and butter, even when we were sharing.

The situation quickly broke down into total anarchy with people "borrowing" other people's stuff without their permission or removing someone else's stuff from the freezer compartment so they could put their own in.

I would have loved a mini fridge, either in my room or a lockable one in the kitchen itself and the only considerations I think you should make is do you need permission from your landlord/hall of residence and will there be enough room to keep it?

Make sure you leave enough room for a cool beer or two!

sure if you like cold drinks. Besides, mini fridge is not going to take up a lot space and at the same time you can keep some foods in it.

Check with the school/Dorm and coordinate with roommate. My son rented a combo microwave fridge unit and split the cost with roommate. In order to have the microwave renting was his only option. This arrangement worked well, since the next year he went to an apartment and did not need the little fridge from the dorm.

It's recommended you do. Check with your rooomate(s) first and see if they're OK with it or if they are bringing one. Make sure it's not too big. Also some colleges rent mini fridges to students.

I'd take the largest fridge you're allowed to take (most likely 4 cubic foot). It'll come in handy, the freezer on these things totally suck but it's better than nothing.

You only have so much room. Get some small thing. Not too small.
