Some people love to make out how good they are and then act as martyrs afterwards. My mother does it the whole time, so unless I want the whole world to know how she's gone out of her way to help me, I never ask her to help in any way. In Biblical times they were known as Pharisees, always making a show of their (supposed) righteousness. I guess people need to feel needed/valued so they make the mistake of letting others know just how much they've "sacrificed" for others.

Yes, it's very lame. I think these people just like to have something to complain about.

It is lame. If you offer to help someone then that person shouldn't be complaining.

Probably because when we try to help someone out we prefer for that person to help as well. I myself don't mind helping anybody who is at least trying to help themselves in the process.
It's more than likely the favor-giver is disappointed in the recepient by the lack of participation.

The only reason to complain is if you do someone a favor and they don't appreciate it........or don't say "thank you"!

It's no shame to stand up for yourself if you really can't help, so be honest about it, then you don't have to complain afterwards.
