I plan a holiday to Australia, we will stay close to the ocean. I can swim very well, but I've never tried surfing. I found a possibility to take lessons, but I'm afraid I won't get any further then struggling for the whole holiday. Any chance it can be fun anway ? I live in Singapore, so I have no chance to practise when I'm back home.

off course it will be fun, as long as you don't go stressing!! look: have fun while trying to learn, don't set the goal to become an excellent surfer in 2 weeks coz if you fail (and the chance is defiantly there, no offence meant) you'll be in a bad mood and you won't enjoy yourself. yet if you set yourself to have fun while trying to learn and maybe to learn to stand up for a few moments, then you'll achieve your goal and have fun! iév tried it once and it didn't look in the remoatest way like surfing, but i had one hell of a great time, so yeah, it's doable. just have fun out there and maybe try again on another holiday!

sure this is attainable to learn in 2 weeks. yet galveston waves and california waves are thoroughly distinctive. and be certain you have a board long sufficient which you will get used to. Dont assume to be waiting to even get up on a 5'5 in case you have by no ability surfed in the previous. choose for an 8' of perchance even 9'.

I would do it. Maybe you won't learn as much as you would if you stayed longer, but it will be a fun experience. Like Swimmer said, you can also go and tell your friends you've surfed before. Also, usually you don't forget what you've learned unless its some random algebra problem that takes forever to solve. Which means that next time you have the opportunity to surf, you probably won't forget it, so you'll have some experience next time.

Go for it. You'll always wonder if you would have done well. Do'nt spend the day at it unless you are having a great time. Give yourself time for the lesson, and a few hours to try your hand, and then move on to other fun activities.

sure it's always fun to try and go back to tell your friends you had surfed before. Just leave out the falling off the board part.

I have been surfing once. I had a great time. If you water ski, or like rafting or floating, you will have fun regardless of your expertise.

well i always love trying new sports so even if i couldnt practice it back home (and i acually can't where im from) i would still try it for the heck of it and if you don't like it then try something else.
