i received a letter today from a work at home job company called "new start" saying that there is an opening for a job regarding sending letters. they said i would get paid 8.75 for each letter they receive and if i didnt like it, that they would give me back twice the amount that i paid to receive the start up kit. also that i would get a $500 gift certificate if i sent the application in 6 days. they even have a limited amount of openings available. i need to know if this a scam or if this is the opportunity ive been waiting for all my life. i need your opinions on the subject and please be honest. i have been scammed so much that im just loosing it. i have almost given up on ever finding a real work at home job. plz let me know what you think. i appreciate it alot thank you.

You got good reason to suspect that all work at home proposals are scams, becuase in over 90 % of the cases, that is exactly what they are. Get a real job, forget this stuff, and save yourself a lot of grief down the road.

I been scammed by them, the letter I recieved about 5 months ago is probably word for word what you received..Especially the limited openings. I was lucky I checked out http://www.ripoffreport.com and they were listed.
But maybe how I make extra money part time, might be of interest to you:
(1) I sell items on a local auction site and on Ebay. The majority of my items comes from garage sales, discount bins at local stores, etc. I sell the larger items locally, less shipping charges etc. and most of my customers will gladly pick up the items. Sometimes I buy items from the local site just to sell on EBay. You can get the same type of information that some people offer for sale just by checking out the Ebay site for free!
(2) Probably the easiest way that I make a little extra income is by doing simple things like surveys, and "reading emails", etc. I make enough to pay my Internet bill and a good chunk of my grocery bill and I only spend about an 1/2 hour a night doing this
(3) It takes a little time and effort but if correctly done correctly, having your own website / blog can be a great form of steady income. That is the best thing about the Internet, it is open 24/7 and available worldwide and you can make extra money even when you are off the computer.

I would guess it probably is. The one you described sounds like one where you pay the upfront fee and then you send out letters to get other people to pay you an upfront fee just like you sent in your fee--just a variation of a pyramid scam/scheme.
In general, if it's a legitimate offer to hire you--to trade your work for their money--there wouldn't be any of your money involved up front. Scams tend to ask for money upfront and put in a sense of urgency so people do it quickly. There's almost no other reason why a company would be in such a hurry to get you to send in your fee so they can mail out letters that quickly. If it was that urgent, they would have mailed out the letters themselves rather than going through this marketing effort. I would avoid that one.
The Better Business Bureau has common scams listed somewhere on their site as well.

Sounds like it, anyway.
Don't give up hope, just keep asking & telling people your looking for work, ...consider anything etc. ( except the above oppertunity :)

i got fooled by a letter like that. They said id get 100 dollars for every email i sent. Yea it turns out that they give me 100 but take 200. Do fall for any of the bull ****

Try calling the Better Business Bureau, they should be able to tell you whether or not it is a scam.

I have never heard of them, but just by looking at your description, yes, it is a scam.
