If there is, then would not some of those other close-lying universes have an influence on the development of our own universe? Could not the eventual overlapping of universes have an effect on the longevity of our universe? Could not the additional mass added to our own universe by the penetration of foreign galaxies (from other universes) precipitate the contraction of our universe? And, would not the three-dimensional meeting of several universes mark the limits of expansion of at least one of them (perhaps the one that was stretched the thinnest) so that it would then start to contract? Would not this contraction then suck galaxies from other universes toward its center so that the resulting “big bang” would result in material from several universes being fused together and then spewed back out into space, resulting in an even diffusion of material throughout the universes of "the total universe?"
Thank you for your consideration on this matter.

String Theory researchers would say yes. Now prove it.

By definition, if we consider the universe to be everything that is ultimately and potentially observable, and that can have an influence on what we can observe, then any other universe cannot have any influence on our universe, or else they would not be distinct, and would then be part of the same universe.

This may sound like a catch 22 answer, but if you think about it, it is all a matter of definition.

Now, there are some theories that say that distinct universes may eventually interact, merging into a single universe for some time, before going "away" and returning to their individual selves later. No one knows for sure, and no one knows if or when we'll ever know for sure.

There is only one universe. Thus the words prefix "uni." There may be parallel universes but that is uknown and would be in another dimension of reality that we can't see. It's similar to the idea of alternate realities where in the 4th dimension you mgiht do different things at different times etc.

There are other galaxies, solar systems and the like which may intereact with our solar system or galaxy at some point down the road but that is way down the timeline.

It is theorized that giant black holes are at the center of each galaxy which creates the movement of our galaxy around an even more giant black hole at the center of the universe. Who knows though.

only a short answer cause i dont have enough words to go into the depth this needs, but for a technical point if there is more than one universie then its a multiverse not a universe since universe means there can be only one.

I stopped reading your question after the third line....Anyway, yep. The M-theory predicts the existence of many universes or a multiverse.
