What is the difference between a toner and astringent? I just bought some neutrogena clean pore oil-eliminating astringent but still not sure.

Toners are more gentle than astringents. Astringents contain more alcohol. This usually means that astringents clean better (remove more dirt and oil) but can be more drying to the skin. Your neutrogena astringent should work fine for your pores, but I would always use moisturizer after using any type of astringent.

If you don't like your astringent, try a kind called Witch Hazel next time. It is all natural and works great!

Hope this helps!

You should wash your face with a mild face wash, with lukewarm water. Lukewarm water opens pours to cleanse. Rinse with slightly cooler water to close the pores. Just remember, any extream temp will aggravate the skin. And aggravated skin may cause break outs, and in later years, wrinkles. Astringent is a little stronger than Toner. If you find that your getting breakouts using the astringent, try using a mild toner. And always use lite moisturizer afterwords.
I know that Avon has a real good Pore reducing face mask also.

You can't actually physically minimize pores, but you absolutely can make them LOOK smaller. The best thing to use for this is a good BHA exfoliator. It's a liquid that actually exfoliates the insides of your pores, and does it in a way that is very gentle on the rest of your skin so that it doesn't trigger breakouts. (Everyone's skin is different, so that's not a guarantee, but I have very sensitive skin, and I've never had a problem with it.) It's a method that is recommended by skin care specialists and is considered vastly superior to surface scrubs. My blackheads disappeared in a couple of days, and since my pores are now empty, they look like they are tighter. The most reasonably priced BHA I've found is Clearasil Acne Fighting Facial Moisturizers ($3.99), but there are many others including Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion ($7.99) and Paula’s Choice 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Liquid ($15.95). Do NOT use Biore's line of "pore minimizing" products... most of them are too harsh on the skin, which makes it freak out and retain the oil that causes acne. The same goes for witchhazel -- it is drying and damaging to the skin, and it makes skin so dry that it freaks out and produces even more oil!

Get a good skin care system going, that includes a good toner and moisturizer. You can also find many masks on the market which will help with your poors and also improve your skin. One that is pretty cheap but fabulous is Queen Helene's Mint Julip Mask - it's so cheap and amazing. One that is a little more pricey is "Your getting warmer" by Origins (its a heat mask).
There are also cosmetic products on the market that are good to help reduce the size of pores, they are called pore minimizers. Almost all the major beauty lines have them. Clinique carries one that is about $16 and it works great.

Warm your skin. That will make the pores close up. Cold weather makes your pores open up and get goosebumps.
