Here is a link that reports the history of Congressional salaries.

Did you know they started at $6 per diem (per day)
Vice President - $192,600 ; Speaker of the House - $192,600 ; Majority & Minority Leaders of the Senate & House - $166,700 ; Senators & Representatives - $150,000 ; Cabinet members (Executive Schedule, Level 1) - $166,700; House passes minimum wage hike, estate tax cut
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- By a vote of 230-180, the House gave the go-ahead early Saturday to legislation that gradually boosts the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour, phased over three years.

The measure also included a cut in the federal inheritance tax mostly paid by the wealthy.

Republican leaders made the minimum wage increase more palatable to their ranks by attaching it to a package of tax cuts they've been pushing, including a major reduction in the estate tax. (Posted 2:30 a.m.)

Yeah don't you just love that! Everytime I see a taped session of congress, I always see some guy snoozing out and I wonder how much money he's getting paid for every moment he drools on his lap. It's like watching the oil companies say that there's nothing unnatural going on with the high gas prices and how they wish they could do something...and then you see their profit margins going through the roof and it makes you sit back and go hmmmm.

Senators and Representatives only make $150,000 per year? They must really like that job (a lot of them give up a lucrative law practice of over $250,000 a year and maybe a bunch more).

I also doubt they get to submit their travel reciepts for reimbursement...
