I lived in the south all my life (Louisiana), and I have seen anything to indicate to me that people think southerners are more racist than in other parts of the country.. Racism exists everywhere where there are people. You have got the good, which outnumber the bad.

It's the sins of the father visited on the sons...

not to mean that your father in particular was racist, but a lot of Southerners were, just due to the history of the place, and now that assumption is made that ALL southern people still are...

It's just a generalization, I wouldn't take it personally.

I've heard of Southern Hospitality.

I also grew up in the deep south, and I can say that while not all southerners are racist, enough of them are that I'm glad I'm gone.

because they've spent time there and know it to be a fact? of course bigotry is geographically democratic, and thus shares itself equally, everywhere. but, really now! hopefully, times will change finally in the foreseeable future. currently, the planet seems to be heading in a not too comforting direction, and we'd all best try shaping up in many respects, if for no other reason, than to "spitefully" deny the "christians" their "rapture" (chuckle). especially the southern ones :-) cheers!

unfortunately this is what southerners were labeled as being
northerners have reputations they have to live with as do italians sweeds puerto rican the irish males females blondes ( i am blonde :P ) red heads male verses female short verses tall to even more specific etc

no matter where you go everyone can find something to harrass another person about sadly that is just how this world is :(

good question

Probably because most of the slave owners were in the South, and the decendants of those families still live there. Slavery was one issue that divided the North and the South, and old habits die hard.

No idea. I'm from the South, and don't have a racist bone in my body.
My close group of friends are a rainbow of color.

Because they are!! Just like Northerners!

I'm kidding. Not everybody does that. Don't be a generalizer. Be a leader.
