Mint
put mint oil on cotton balls and place them where you think the mice are comming in or where you don't want them. Mice can't stand the smell and flee. Also mint tea bags work well in drawers, plus they leave you clothes smelling really nice....unlike moth balls.
This really does work i have used it for years and my house was infested before i did this.
Good Luck!!!

Have a cat. keep your closet door open just enough for the cat to come and go as they need to. Cats have great hearing and could hear a mouse easily. Once the mice find there's a cat at home, they should leave you alone.

Mice usually nest in dark damp places. How often do you go into the closet. Are the clothes old? Perhaps you should weed out some of the things you don't use. If that doesn't work, call some one.

I suggest you let the cat in and keep your pit outdoors...at least until your cat solves the mouse problem..Mice are not only pesty they are also disease carriers..they are destructive and they will tear clothing, boxes and whatever else they need to build nests for their young; not to mention get into your food supply. If it is impossible to leave your dog out and your cat inside, call in a professional exterminator (Truly Nolen..is one reputable company) to handle this mouse problem before it gets way out of control.

dryer sheets sometimes. Just hurry up and get rid of them. I had hundreds of dollars worth of clothing ruined because of them urintating on them ! It doesn't come out ever , either ! Put several mouse traps.

put the pit out and bring the cat in, if the pit can't get rid of them replace him (temporarily)
