Yes, you are charged units when you receive a call. You are not charged units for it just being on--at least, I'm not!

It depends on the phone technology on CDMA Tracfone's minutes dont start deducting until after 15 seconds but on gsm TF headsets it is charged the second the call connects.

Watch your minutes on the display. You get charged every time your phone is used. If your phone answers a call it is one unit per minute 2 units per minute for long distance as if you made the call.
I have had one for years.
