The maximum effect of a birth control shot usually takes up to one year for your periods to stop. Sometimes even longer. Every body works differently. What might work for me won't for you and vica versa. Tell your gynecologist about your problems if you have some concerns and questions. He or she may be able to ease your mind. But from my own personal experiences with these shots, you can expect some bleeding each month until a year. Then you shouldn't experience a period at all after that.

Your doctor will explain further details..... But, depending on the shot ingredients (???) the intention of birth control is to prevent pregnancies, NOT shut down the normal uterus functions. ...You should maintain healthy menstrual periods in order to avoid problems - and even cancers- later on. ....Uterine health is vital for all women..
... There are drugs proposed to stop menstruation temporarily, ....but they might also prevent your personal fertility (when you are ready for a pregnancy.)

I had that shot once and I bled for 3 months. You had better go see your doctor.

I suggest calling up your dr. and asking them. Chances are it's just the body adjusting or hormones out of balance until it gets used to things, but calling your dr. can't hurt either. Just keep track of things.
