They do it because a relationship that meant a lot to them has ended and they are left feeling that they are not wanted anymore, that perhaps no one will want them. The feelings and hurt they experiened aren't healed enough yet for them to be ready to try again but finding out that someone still wants them is part of the healing process. Its kind of like having a baby, you will not have a second one until the memory of the pain of giving birth has faded enough that it doesn't seem so bad anymore. If that didn't happen nobody would ever have more than one child, or relationship.

The fact that you have been used like that twice is about you, not someone else. When you meet someone and you hear them say they just got out of a relationship they took seriously you should know whats up and not get in to bed with them, or at least not for a while. You have to figure out why YOU are doing what you are doing, not why they are doing what they are doing. Do you think you can fix it for them? Do you think that if you give them enough the scars will heal and be forgotten? What is it that YOU are trying to get out of it?

Unfortunately most people I know who are or have been on the rebound jump straight from the frying pan into the fire and a big flamed fire at that, it must be hard for them to feel they need someone else in their life straight away, but having never been in that situation myself I won't judge them, just give my shoulder to cry on as usual.

You'll always be someone's rebound off their last relationship. Stop focusing on that stuff or making someone like you and just date until she says, hey i want to spend more time with you.

they dont like being alone. they are use to the relationship scene and when that changes they have to find someone to fill that gap. never put yourself in the position to be a rebound.

its really an unfair thing to do.... sometimes they are just looking for a distraction from their sorrow and sometimes they don't realize they aren't actually over the other person yet... either way its terrible to do... they need to take the time to heal first... no matter how long it takes before attempting to move on... instead of hurting innocent people.... wise / decent people wait....instead of using others... sorry to hear you have been caught in that drama...hugs ya!

It's a great way to forget about the person you were in a relationship with previously. I've heard that it's also one of the fastest ways to get over them.

It's just human nature. They want to know that they are still able to have that kind of relationship after a breakup. You just happened to be caught by two people who were doing it.

I guess because they're lonely and need somebody to make them feel better about themselves if they've been hurt. That doesn't make it right though.

They are lonely, or trying to cover up their hurt by making themselves feel good temporarily. They want to make sure they still have it.
