The Beatles were the best pop band. The innovations and accomplishments they brought to the music scene at the time were unmistakably pioneering. Their producer, George Martin, and his channelling of their ideas also cannot be overstated. I'm 48 and still remember 1st hearing "She Loves You."
They went through the cultural drug use of the mid-60's (which still continues to this day) and some of their music reflects that. Paul's father, an orchestra leader and musician, gave Paul some necessary tools as well. John had the heart, Paul had the talent, George added his gifts, and Ringo brought some really cool drum chops that are unique to him. George Martin was the musical chef, if you will, and worked alongside these 4 very talented lads from Liverpool.
They also possessed a humorous and vibrant charisma and charm that is so lacking in today's music scene. They are sorely missed by many.

My 82 year old mom still thinks its all horrible noise. But I still like Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Electric Light Orchestra.
