upon playing in 'shuffle' mode i've realised that the virus 'Nickleback' has invaded my itunes.
How can I remove such a rampart intruder?

Virus, yeah, right, and the Gary Moore cd in my collection is a virus too, honestly, no idea how it got there.

What you do is you connect your ipod to the coumputer and then you click on your ipod on the source list on itunes then you click on nickelback and you press the delet button not backspace then don't pull out your ipod till it says you can or just restore your ipod with the latest updater and put all the songs you want on your ipod except nickelback

EGAD!! Not the dreaded Nickelback!! This demands swift action. Load up as much Pantera, Emporor and Behemoth songs as you can fit and blast the little f****** to death!
