You could use an old window screen to make silt with your garden soil.

You can't MAKE silt. Silt is one the three main components of soil. Sand, Silt and Clay. You can buy soil mixes that are heavy on sand or heavy on silt. Most people wouldn't want to add clay to their soil!

Commerical soil mixes usually have other ingredients as well, like loam, humus, sterile manure, perlite, etc, and sometimes fertilizer.

I am more curious about why you ask. Are you making your own soil mix? Many commercial greenhouses make their own soil mixes, depending on the crops they grow. It's cheaper and they can control the ingredients. The ingredients are purchased by the truckload.
