someone who is very depressed and emotional (hence EMO) they often self harm to 'release themselves' and they listen to gothic emo music a lot of the time. They often just like to wallow in self-pity I think...

emo stands for emotive hardcore, a genre of music.

it's someone who is emotionally...um unstable. usually pretty depressed, wears a lot of black, listens to metal or screamo music, and tends to think the slightest problems are complete tragedies. they tend to be a little different and do things to get attention.
