Yes, what the hell is wrong with these people. If I'm gonna use any acronym to these people, it's STFU!

Personally I think it is fine to use LOL. Something gets lost in translation here on the net..no voice inflection...one has to rely on emoticons and add things like LOL, LMAO, ROFL, etc to let the other person know that you are laughing or just joking. Without it some things could be misconstrued. However, I can see your point..it could be overused and lots of times does.

LOL originally meant "lots of luck," actually. It was a Slingo term that somewhere along the line became "laugh out loud." But I don't know, it doesn't bother me too much because I'm so used to seeing it in every other sentence.

honestly, i don't use it. i do, however, overuse "hehe" or "heh" to indicate a small laugh. for big, belly-buster laughs, i like "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" or such. it makes me nutso to see "lol" all the time. ever heard someone say "l-o-l" in real life conversation? ugh!

Especially when they use it inappropriately, as in "I had a really bad day, boy am I angry LOL." That's just weird.
