I THINK THAT IT MIGHT BE INTERNAL IN THE ALT IF NOT LOOK CLOSE AT THE RT SIDE OF THE CORE SUPPORT BUY THE RADIATOR

The voltage regulator on that year is an integrated on inside the alternator, along with the Diode trio which converts the AC of the alternator to DC from AC
Some auto parts places have them but it's just better to get a new alternator. as bearings and brushes wear also.
I know as I repair them, Sorry guys I got this one. External regulators in 79 were almost non-existent except for a few Fords

If u didnt know it was built in u sure dont need to be working any old chevrolet thats one of the easiest things in the work i can look at the alt and tell if its got a voltage reg or not and no 79 didnt have one but seriously just by u asking that question i know u dont need to be working on it take it somewhere

If I am not mistaken its located on the firewall or on the inner wheel well near the battery. Unless it has been re-wired in that case there is no telling cause the regulator could have been removed and replaced by an updated alternator.

Al 1979 GM vehicles had an internal voltage reg. built into the alt. If your volts are fluctuating then you need to either rebiuld or replace

should be on the passanger side firewall a rectangal box dont think they were internal on a 79'
