Apart from visiting the Acropolis which is the landmark of Athens I would suggest that you walk around Athens...It has some very nice places to go...So:
1. Walk around the Acropolis, following the Dionysiou Areopagitou street (which is only for pedestrians)
2. Go for a coffee, or ice cream or whatever at Thissio...there are some cafes that have a beatiful view to the Acropolis (I suggest Flocafe)
3. Walk Ermou street (the main commercial street of Athens)...especially on Saturdays its a blast
4. Have a coffee at Syntagma square which was renovated recently for the Olympic games
5. Walk through the streets of Kolonaki where Greek celebrities and "rich kids" like to hang out
6. Go up to Lykavittos Hill...it has a very nice view of whole Athens
7. During the night you should visit Psirri...it has a lot of bars and restaurants
8. Definitely visit the suburbs by the sea...Faliro, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza...they all have beautiful cafes by the beach and very nice views...

Hello dear!
There are some unique places in Athens, which should be visited. Acropolis, Archaeological Museum, Theseum, etc.
Also, in the summer time there are plays of the ancient writers/ philosophers performed in the Herodus Atticus Odeon and even in Epidauros (a ship can bring you from Phaliron to Epidauros), ..
Walk around Plaka and other places.
Also, Sounion is half day trip from Athens! Also, you could combine this trip with visiting the silver mines that made Democracy possible, ....

visit the parthenon, an architectually gifted historical monument perched top of the acropolis. it was the most beautiful structure i saw on the whole of my backpacking trip. the temples and piazzas in italy were classic, but staring up at the parthenon and seeing nothing but sky around you, i felt surreal to my surroundings. it was THE best. of course, my camera didn't work when i got up there, and so i lost a great opportunity. much of my time in athens was walking through their districts like plaka, syntagma, monastiraki areas, which you can get a good feel for the culture.

Make sure you have a small hotel in the Plaka (ancient Athens) just under the Acropolis; good walking shoes and take a walk around the rock.. better take a week..

Visiting Delphi is a popular and rewarding day trip. The scenery is spectacular -- even on the way there.
