2004 - Kerry lost to Bush b/c 1) Kerry was not charismatic 2) Diebold voting machines had no audit trail 3) Swiftboat Veterans for 'Truth' savaged his reputation

2000 - Gore lost to Bush b/c 1) Diebold voting machines 2) Gore portrayed as selfserving liar 3) Gore paid for Clinton's affair w/Monica

1996 - Dole lost to Clinton b/c Dole was old and the economy was going great.

1992 - Bush (41) failed to get re-elected b/c he broke his pledge 'read my lips, no new taxes'. Also Ross Perot pulled away enough conservative votes to sink Bush

1988 - Dukakis lost to Bush (41) b/c Dukakis was perceived to be weak on defense. His answer to the question in the debate about what he'd do if his wife were raped made him look robotic. He should have shown anger at such a question.

1984 - Mondale lost to Reagan b/c the economy was on the upswing. Reagan was an optimist. Mondale promised to RAISE taxes.

1980 - Carter lost to Reagan b/c of the Iranian hostage crisis.

Usually because the public doesn't like their ideas. Or in the case of John Kerry, he wouldn't same what his ideas were before the election.
