I had friend, a communist young man who was hiding underground snce the secondary school days .. He was very active and working very hard for his party . He was decent , nice and lovely .. I used to meet him from time time and he used to hide from the police in my house when the conditions require that. When he reached the age of sixty, I was outside the country and I read in a local newspaper that is he is not hiding anymore and that the goverment permitted him to appear and to enter a hospital for treatment... I returned to my country and hurried to the hospital to visit him , but he was dead ...It looks that he received amnesty from the dictator because he was dying..

Very interesting question! I have been friends with one person since I was 13 and I'm now 52 so 39 yrs is my longest friendship. I have another friend I have known since 1982 so that's my second longest friendship at 24 yrs. I have quite a few friends probably 7 which are genuine friends that I can really count on. I have also had friends in my life like in the military that I may never see again, that I'll always consider as friends.

Longest friendship so far has been 23 years. Several true-blue friends that I would do anything for. 3 live in different states than I do.

My friends number in the high range; but I consider myself lucky to have one true-blue friendship that will stand the test of time. We became fast and true friends around three years ago and know more about each other than any living soul.
My last friendship like this lasted for almost twenty years; but I elected to create some distance from her when her young adult children began to create havoc in my life. She did nothing about it; and then turned around and married a man who was using her. Of course, she is still paying the bills for the wedding and he ran off with every penny she owned.
It hurt me when she wouldn't even consider the possibility that I could see something she couldn't....after all those years together...and she was very angry with me for not accepting him. I was coming from a very good place; and she should have known better. If she called me tomorrow; I would help her...but I will never feel close to her again.

I have one genuine friend who I have been friends with for 13 years, and we still can sit around and talk for hours about eveything, other friends have come and gone, and I lost touch with my best friend for a year or so but we came right back to our friendship even better than before and we are so much alike that we pretty much agree on everything, and we can agree to disagree..lol In the past I have thought that more friends were better, but really you only need one true friend, Quality is always better than Quantity!!!

I have 2 best friends. One I have been friends with for 15 years now. I love her to death and I don't know what I would do without her. The other I have been friends with for 12 years now. She is living really far away now but we still keep in touch as much as possible.

Probably around 10 years. I'm not one to have a million best friends, I like to keep a few excellent friends and this one I've known for 10 years is definitely my true-blue friend.
