Recently there was a post on a Battlestar Gallactica Blog about who would win between a Star Destroyer (Star Wars) and a Battlestar. Then it was decided that the Tardis could defeat both. The Battlestar would barely be a challenge. The Star Destroyer has a bunch of storm troopers who can't shoot straight, battle droids which can be deactivated, and the Doctor could probably mess with the midichlorians to defeat a sith.

Outside the sci-fi genre (fantasy, horror and comic books) there are probably beings who could defeat the Doctor, BUT within the sci-fi genre, is there anyone who the Doctor could not defeat?

Sahara makes a good point, except that the ascended being from Stargate used technology to ascend. Currently SG1 is questing for the holy grail because it is actually technology which can be used against (destroy or neutralize, or un-ascend/descend) ascended beings. It's also been established that ascended beings are not all powerful or all knowing, and don't exist outside of time. Which means that someone with extreme technical proficiency operating outside of time and space could possibly defeat the ascended beings. So I'm pretty sure that the Doctor could defeat the Ori and the Ancients.

The Star Trek Captains aren't even close to being in the same league with the Doctor.

Those Predators are beasts with technology, and the Doctor defeats things like that all the time.

Someone in another forum suggested that the Borg might be a good match for the Doctor. Chances are that it would be more of a standoff with neither able to defeat the other. There's just no assimilating the Doctor

You don't say if this is limited to tv/movie creatures or anything in the sci-fi pantheon. There are lots of books with god-like beings that could probably defeat Doctor Who. Of the ones that have crossed into Hollywood's realm, I would say the cosmos manipulating caretakers in Contact would give the Doctor a run for his money. That's a species and not an individual. For a single individual, I'd probably go with Marvin from HGttG. Taking the source as canon, he has a brain the size of a planet and has lived longer than the life of the universe so he's older and smarter than the Doctor.

Wool - Hugh Howey - human beings residing underground in a silo with a screan staring at a burning international exterior. the placement the Wolf Spiders Sleep - residing zodiac, one destined to die, and a quest to discover the undesirable Reaper's golden coronary heart. city of Bones - Angels and demons. there's a action picture popping out consistent with this series. Harry Potter (do no longer think of of i'd choose that might actually assist you comprehend lol). you would be able to easily like the long walk by using Stephen King, supply it a bypass.

The race of Ancients, the Al-Terrans, from the Stargate Series.

As ascended beings (ie, non-corporeal) they would be difficult to battle - plus, they have advanced scientific knowledge, the power to control the forces of nature, and the ability to travel through the galaxy at the speed of thought.

Captain Kirk, Picard, Sisko, or any of the Star Trek captains [except for that UPN driven series going on right now].
