Beats me! I lived there 10 years. I never met such a bunch of pretentious, self-absorbed liberal jerks in my life! Although I must admit the ethnic food and diverse culture is very good there.

Whenever a person feels of San Francisco feels at a huge International Orange-coloured bridge, a park spanning a lot more than 1,000 acres or perhaps a town where modern art and culture and if you're interested in that city then this is actually the place to begin hotelbye . Among the things for that which you should visit San Francisco is PIER 39. From incredible views and a sea of sea lions to chowder bread bowls and California wines, your visit to San Francisco starts at PIER 39. This place is probably the most visited location in San Francisco. It offers two degrees of food, activity, shopping and attractions, all surrounded by irresistible opinions of the town and the bay. Situated across the old San Francisco waterfront, PIER 39's site supplies the image perfect backdrop for postcard opinions of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, Alcatraz, Angel Island and the famous city skyline.

I have only visited the US once and stayed in SF for 2 weeks, but i have friends who travel all over the states for business frequently.

I can honestly say that I found SF to be a truly delightful city, the waterfront, the ship/museums, the steep slopes, the tram, the history, the bridges, the shopping, the crab and melted butter on the street :) everything about the city and the surrounding area was great.

I didnt see any of the negative side of the US I had come to expect prior to my trip, athough im sure SF has its bad neighbourhoods, violent crime, street gangs etc just like anywhere else and I didnt just concentrate on being in the tourist areas (I was actually staying in Oakland).

One of these days I will take the time to visit more of the country and maybe then my views will change, but for now I have very pleasent memories of SF.

My girlfriend at the time who i was traveling with (SF girl) told me that most US cities look and feel the same, but SF with its location, architecture etc is kind of unique and perhaps thats why so many people love the city.

Great climate. "Not so pretty"? You can't possibly have been there or you are blind, probably the most beautiful city in the United States. San Francisco Bay, Pacific Ocean, Presidio, the Golden Gate. Unique personality. Interesting people, arts, architecture, Chinatown, Japantown, North Beach Italian Section. Fishersmans Wharf. Nob Hill,Cabblecars, Golden Gate Park, Haight Ashbury. All the great authors from there. Tolerance.

One negative -- overly agressive pan handlers.

It is the Most Beautiful place you will ever see. Just drive everyday from Marin into San Francisco through the Golden Gate, everyday is different, the clouds, the colour of the Sky, the colour of the Ocean. you are in for a treat everyday.

I would say for the weather, it's scenery, and historic landmarks, as well for it's cultural activities.

There is some truth in what you said. To make a long story short, you need to know what you want to do and know where it is ahead of time before going to San Francisco.

It's an absolutely gorgeous city! People from all walks of life are accepted. Every community has their own neighborhood. There is a lot to do, the schools are decent (the best of urban school districts in CA), and the place is super-liberal.

cons: too expensive and too liberal.
