The Universe is One, as we are One. There are many cliche's, from One Man/One Vote, to The baseball thing heard around the World. I understand the so called Butter Fly Effect. All these things that happen on a local basis can influence a city on the other side of the world. I think deeply, and have realized it is a small world we live in. For instance, an Artist from the 16th Century, can have effects on a man or woman in the 21st Century. It is an echo from the past to the future. The belief of fate and destiny correlates with our connections to one another. There is one person I see about every 6 months. We don't really know each other, but why? I don't have a clue, not yet. We always say hello, & know each others name. Then there are a few people I would love to "run into", but never do. I love life, and enjoy the thoughts we have together.

Everyone and everything has an effect on the things that they come into contact with. Since everyone and everything come into contact with everything else, through varying degrees of separation, then everything in the world has an effect on everything else to some degree. For example: You might not have any effect personaly on some guy in China buying pants, however you might say something to a pants salesman who immediately realizes that there's better fabric, and the guy in china buys new pants. Of course the separation is likely to be much bigger, but it's there. A rock laying on the road may not have much affect for many several years, but then a horse throws a shoe on it, a messenger doesn't get to where he's going, the plans are not delivered, the battle is lost, the war is lost, and the kingdom falls.
BTW there used to be a GREAT show on TLC or the Discovery Channel called Connections which SHOWED how things are all interconnected, dealing mostly with historical events and inventions and such. I highly reccomend it.

In my view, "maksuri's" answer is basically catholic, since effects are explained by a divine cause (reason, purpose) which can not be known but is there anyhow. Thus, interconnectedness (meaning dependency) is the result of a plan, which only God knows.
On the other hand, "anthonydavid" recalls a scientific kind of interconnectedness (the butterfly effect), which is nevertheless dependent on cause and effect, that is, on a linear chain of events.
A third kind is the orientalist view which is non linear and implies no cause. In the Taoist perspective, you and all things and all events, are part of the universe and the universe as a whole, flows in one direction. Thus, any event will be related with others because they all belong to a common flow of events. People that find their place in the universe (connect with it) go along with it and are successful.

Well one way to look at it is gravity but from a universal point of view. It is what holds every mass, every atom, and every subatomic particle together, and even though not everything in the universe is attatched by gravity like your computer is to your desk, there are still forces from all across the galaxy pulling against each other and other forces to counter act it. It is keeping the universe balanced with hormony. If you want to call the middle east or an exploding star balanced and hormony.

I believe this trend of thought travels a parallel path with the idea of morphic resonance. Every living thing is aware of every other living thing and is connected in such a way as to create a balance within our universe. I believe this is supposed to work regardless of the organism's ability to be cognizant of the resonance.

We can not describe what something is and of it self without bringing along other things to describe it. And when we do look at a thing, it seems to be next to nothing, or about nothing in some way. There is space in every object and idea. All things are connected to be in and of themselves, as well as, they are all connected to nothingness, or space, or void.

I'm not Einstein or even close to it, but I have heard that all things are made of the same molecules or whatever you call them, they are just arranged differently.ie a tree and a human have the same molecules (or whatever) they are just arranged differently.I've seen a diamond made out of peanut butter from being under extreme pressure, that was on Modern Marvels.
