One of my customer has asked me to point him in the right direction as how EXACTLY does he go about using his mobile's modem to browse Internet over his laptop. He said, his friend did so, so it seems it IS possible.

I was sadly not quite in the position to answer his question, since I'm yet to enlighten myself with it.

I wonder if anyone around could tell me EXACTLY how could this be possibly achieved, as if there any cable OR software needed to do so & how exacly could this be done ???

Speaking of connecting modem with laptop, what are the other things that could possible be transferred to & from laptop & mobile ???

You mean he wants to use his cell phone as a modem? Yeah, it's possible, here's some basics on how to do that, http://mobileoffice.about.com/od/usingyourphone/a/cellmodem.htm but his cell phone must be web-enabled so it can transmit and receive information from the Internet, if it is not, then he can't do it no if ands or buts. He may also have to purchase a data connection plan from his carrier and the phone must have a USB connection (either built in or through an adapter). Note, it will eat his phone's battery life like nothing and it will be slower than a broadband connection but slightly faster than dial-up.

He may be better off simply purchasing a separate data plan and using a PCMCIA cellular data card (offered by all major carriers like Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, T-Mobile and Cingular), Verizon charges $49.99 for the PCMCIA card and an unlimited data plan costs $60 for two years (or so I've been told). This way he won't waste his cell phone's battery.
