I am using 1024x768 dpi. I am just trying to find out which screen setting is mostly used. Please also mention, what you do mostly in your computer like design, surfing, word processing etc. A kind of poll this is.

I have a few websites that records browser, screen resolutions and other info. My stats tell me that 86% of users that visit my sites use 1024x768 screen resolutions.

Depends, 1280x1024 is good for a 19" square monitor, wide screen would take a different ratio. Smaller monitors use smaller ratio's, like 640x480 for the old 14". There is a range for most monitors that work. Also there is the "native" ratio which is what the monitor was made to produce the "best" viewing. Check the specs for yours, pick what you like. As a general rule the larger the ratio the smaller things (like icons) look, but with a larger screen area (things that you can see at the larger ratio would be off screen at the smaller ratio)

1280 x 1024 (17" Samsung LCD on DVI), primary desktop
1280 x 800 (15.4" laptop display)
1280 x 1024 (Another 17" Analog Samsung LCD), secondary desktop

I don't think anyone hates CRTs as much as I do and I mean HATE with a capital "H" to the very core of my being.

1024 x 786 is such an outdated resolution (common on 15" displays or CRTs which is the very reason I do not like it) and if you are running your monitor outside its native resolution, how can you stand it being blurry?

Windows - 1024x768
Linux - 1280x1024

Most people use 1024x768 (most web pages are set at that resolution also).

The one that you can see. Adjusting resolution is only good if you can use the higher resolution, otherwise what is the point of making your computer unusable.
