Well.....
Tchaikovsky sounds are a mixture of real music. to me it is a mixture of success and failure..it indicates such sincerity and intelligence with modesty and candour.......witha touch of elegance....
In his work its so unique, yet his style is so far diverse or different to other compposers yet tantalizing and drawing to others.....
FYou ask how do i rate him ..he's a unique composer and has or had lots of talent.....
I cannot choose a favorite all his work compliment each other..with the high and the lows.....the failure and the successes they all come together....

I prefer the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty --- He was one of the best composers of his time --- obviously since in 2006 we are still hearing of him and seeing Swan Lake and the Nutcracker not only in your local theatre groups but also on Broadway, but if I had to choose any composer I would choose Dvorak, Debussy or Mozart.

Strictly "ear candy".This may be why you hear his music on elevators all the time.Swan Lake is my favorite. This does not mean that this is not great music, just less complex and involving.
