It is not a coincidence that United 93 DVDs will go on sale in stores on September 5 - six days before September 11th.

It is not a coincidence that the movie World Trade Center will be released 33 days before September 11th.

These are marketing ploys put into effect to raise DVD and theater ticket sales. Call me crazy, but I'm sure that these movies have more significance than that to government.

Think about this before you answer the question I have posed below.

...

Do you want to contribute to the the atrocities of these movies being made and released and used to profit from the tragedies that occured on September 11th? Do you want the 9/11 deaths to become the property of a bank that all these fat executives are sitting on so happily?

They are using this tragedy against us to profit from it.

Do you really want to buy it?

The images that I witnessed on 9/11 will forever be burned into my corneas. To know that so many people died in such a horrific way, to know by seeing it happen, not hearing about it, was very unnerving. I don't need a movie to remind me of what I have already seen.

I will indeed purchase both movies. They are historically correct, well documented films. They tell the stories of the heroes who acted so bravely during a tragedy, where they knew they would (or could) die. The children of these heroes really do deserve to have a record of what their loved ones did. They need to be able to tell the story to their grandchildren, etc. Also, children across the nation need to see these films, to remember what individual people gave for the safety and well being of others. I don't mind that profit is being made from the tragedy. The social benefit is much greater in the long run.

I probably won't see either of the movies because it would be too upsetting. But I believe that the producers of both movies received both positive and negative feedback from victims' families on these movies. Some wanted the movies made so the heroes and victims would never be forgotten while others believe as you do.

The events of September 11th is one of the most important, albeit tragic, events in the history of the United States. At that time, the US united together regardless of gender, race or political party. That sense of unity is gone as the horror of September 11th slowly fades. Maybe the release of these movies will help reunite this country. They could certainly be valuable historic documentation tools for future generations.

Hmm, I don't think I would buy the movies since as a rule I don't buy movies with that much tragedy. Depending on the reviews, I might go see one so I can see if it was handled respectfully or not, since I like to submit movie reviews once in a while to the local newspaper website. Although I don't have enough information to completely boycott these movies, as you seem to imply, I would be cautious about them. Thanks for pointing out their marketing timing - yeah, you are right, the entertainment industry knows their marketing strategies. The poetry society I belong to in Utah published a compilation of poems about the 9/11 tragedy, but I couldn't bring myself to write a poem in time for the deadline, so personally I have made no profit whatsoever on the 9/11 tragedy, and the proceeds from my poetry society's book were donated to the Red Cross or 9/11 victims, as I recall.

Yes, United 93 was a great movie. It portrayed the passengers as heros who fought for their country when they knew it was impossible to return safely.

Yes the film makers will make money, but according to Wikipedia, Paul Greengrass received blessings from all the victims families.

At least they producers portrayed them as heros and with respect.

i do think that in many cases the movie industry profits from tragedy but that happens all the time, i liked united 93 because it was directed, but think about it, did you watch the pianist? or any other holocaust movie, did you see toratora or other Pearl harbor movie, or world war one or two movies, or the patriot, or other revolutionary movies, although tragedy is tragedy, is sure makes a Good story!

Absolutely not. It's sickening the way the movie industry tries to profit off of something like the 9/11 attacks.

I have seen the movie and shows how those on the aircraft where hero's, and through their actions they saved other lives.
I am an Australian, so I am looking at it differently I guess. But after seeing the movie I will remember them as heros .

It's always about the money. Profiteers cashing in on other people misery. Nothing is sacred anymore. People shouldn't support the movie.
