I personally think that not having an avatar here decreases your chances of receiving a Best Answer.
Look at your best answers, see how many of them are from people without avatars, compared to the number of people here with similey faces instead of avatars.
Also, this is kind of how it is in real life, where people will usually choose the more visually pleasing person over the plain-faced person.
This isn't a serious concern; just asking out of curiosity.

Good question, but agree with those who suggest you try it if concerned on that point... EASY to do, and yes, you CAN change them DAILY if you wish! (And on the flip side, Moi must assume I NEVER get a *Best Answer* BECAUSE of my PIC! ;) Unless someone here's just INTO BLUE PEOPLE! :P LOL)

You just click the AVATAR square on your email home page, then fix it as you like it, click to SAVE, then RESTART to be SURE it DID save, then click the My Q&A link upper right corner here, then click to Edit My Info, then click to USE your Yahoo avatar, Preview and save THAT, and POOF! DONE! :D

;) Myself, I believe what makes the BEST avatar is when the individual achieves a fairly-good in-depth self-portrait: I honestly worked HARD to CHOOSE the best options where mine WOULD be! :D

[I am honestly even MORE blue in my DL pic.]

Mine turned out to be an internal self-portrait combined with an external one--it looks like the sum of my self: philosophical, medical, all components considered, an image of the inadequately-breathing dead, a way of being honest with myself in regard to my overall health picture, a coping mechanism in its way [just like my nick, I think they make a good match]. ;)

I think that is the BEST way to reflect one's overall look, if one does in fact capture the WHOLE of one's *look*--looking outside AND INSIDE, the honest facts of their lives.

In that sense, I believe my avatar is a declaration that I am at peace with myself, my life, my fate, which is a gift I would wish for anyone on the path to happiness. :)

I think overall the avatar system is fun, light-hearted, and I actually appreciate the somewhat entertaining way to express my more macabre reality. ;)

I mean, where else can you find such a *cute* way to visually express that I have lost my ever-lovin' mind than that pic showing me there holding my head after it's gone and rolled off? ;)

I also appreciate that it gives ALL users the chance to sort through what they value, how they perceive themselves, how they wish to appear vs how they DO actually appear...what they hope to see in the mirror vs reality...whether they like ALL their components...whether they like THEMSELVES...key factors brought to light by your excellent question--THANKS! :D

I was counted as a best answer 20 times before I created an avatar this morning when Yahoo! Answers was "on a coffee break." I have no idea if it would have made a difference if I had created my avatar a month ago, but I certainly find your theory interesting.

I have seen discrimination and prejudging go both ways. I talked to a woman who was insecure and didn't like to hire people whom she thought were better-looking than her. Sometimes guys are nervous about asking a girl out because she is "too pretty." (In real life, I'm not bad-looking, but I don't think I'll have that problem!)

When I asked my one and only question here on Yahoo I got three answers that said basically the same thing... In order to choose I started reading each person's other answers in order to try to figure out who was more deserving of a 'Best Answer' avatar had no bearing...

But you do sort of come off as a neophyte if you don't have one - so if you want to be taken seriously take the time to make one up - it's actually pretty fun!

Get an avatar.

I believe you're right, they do win more. That's why I got a picture for my avatar, which is even more eye-catching that the Yahoo! avatars.

It doesn't have to be anything super or meaningful to you (right now I'm using the mission patch for the Apollo 11 moon mission) just something which might reflect your interests. The Yahoo! avatars are too common; everyone should have a picture to represent them.

So go find one...and stand out. Have a great day.

No because the bare human type isn't innately sexual and your soreness with the organic human type exhibits your own brainwashing and insecurities... journey the bare human type for what that's... a pretty artwork of nature that should be in demand as a lot as a pretty portray or sculpture.

If you can't beat em, join em. It's true that some people do pick best answers because of the avatar, but it's not significant enough to care.

I never notice it..

I don't get the best answers because I am of inferior intelligence, rather than being faceless.

Have a merry christmas.

Why don't you just get one yourself? It's free.
