I am working w/ a person who would like to learn the trade of Locksmith, however this person has conveyed to me that he has prior felony convictions. Based on this circumstance would this disqualify him for employment or apprenticeship training w/ a Locksmith.

Licensure for locksmiths is regulated by each state, so the requirements will vary. I'm enclosing the link to the California site, as an example, which does say a criminal background check is performed, but it doesn't say if that automatically negates the applicant:
