I think it's perfectly true in a way, because often we dont take cognisance of what's actually happening around us. But continue to make plans for our own lives and our own desires, which often dont fit in with the pace of life. However, it is important to make plans and have dreams because as humans we have to have something to work towards and to try and realise our dreams.

Is true half the time (when you're off track or going in the wrong direction), and crap the other half. If you make really good plans then you can probably follow through with them and life or whatever won't get in your way. I think a more accurate quote would be "expect the unexpected" (ie. in life).

I had cancer in 1996, and again in 2004. I actually had other plans at the time, but had to take a slight detour.

The unexpected always alters our path. Mine was an extreme case, but we all experience it. What could be more appropriate to life the that quote.

I think it is a great quote. People will focus so much on one little event in life without taking a look at the big picture.

Question: And why do you make other plans?
Answer: To live life.

It's a Catch-22. There is no way to get out of it. We do not exist just to exist, but to lead a meaningful life. That certainly will not happen if your head is buried in a schedule book.

I love it!!! People are setting goals, making decisions involving the future, etc. while they are rushing around like maniacs juggling too many activities. That, today, is life.

A real good example of that is the movie "Mr. Holland's Opus."

While you are busy trying to "happen to life", life is busy "happening to you".
