First of all, I'm a teenager and live in the United States. Because of all of the talk of war and continued terrorist attacks and suicide bombings, I'm starting to feel uneasy about the future of my generation. I talked to my mom, and she said she doubts that the war in Iraq will be put to rest in her lifetime. And now, with the crisis in the Mideast, the gas shortage, the Ozone layer... I just don't feel as if my future will be safe. How can I put my unease to rest?

Some people are probably going to tell you not to think about it, but ignoring a problem (or source of stress) does not make it go away. In fact, trying to ignore things makes them even harder to ignore. One way you can ease your mind is to get involved in projects of interest that help address some of these issues. For example, you might benefit from volunteering with one of the Environmental projects so you can learn more about the Ozone layer and help educate your friends about things you can all do to help the problem. Action toward a solution helps to diminish the sense of helplessness. Good luck to you.

Life has always been full of peril. And the facts is, while some threats loom on a larger scale today, the world is a safer place to live than it has been at any time in history. And, you live in one of the safest nations in the world. In 1900, an American baby had a life expectancy of just over 47 years. Today, because of better healthcare, nutrition, and sanitation, that same baby can expect to live for 77.5 years. And, unlike his ancestor in 1900, he will live with running water, indoor plumbing, air conditioning, a car, television, a cell phone, and countless other things our ancestors never dreamed of. We truly live at the best and brightest moment in history, in terms of how the average person lives. Will tomorrow be better? Nobody knows. But you should be thankful for how you live today.

Well, back in my day it was Regan and the Russians and the missiles. It was all scary back then too. But look at it this way. So far we have gotten through 2 world wars, a myriad of "conflicts" and skirmishes of all kinds, and still everything is still alright. Things will get better. I promise. I mean, Bush only has what? 2 more years as anti-chri... I mean president.

If you realize that we live in a crazy world and appreciate that you are lucky to be living in America you'll be ok. Try to think of life as a challenge, and you have the opportunity to do good things. When I was your age it didn't look too good either- we had the constant threat of nuclear war with the Soviet Union. It was quite scary at times.

Try to get involved in solving some of these problems by volunteering or going into public service. You may not solve all the world's problems, but you will probably feel better about contributing something practical to the world's situation.

Sit back and enjoy the ride. The choices we make dictate the life we lead, if you can be strong in your own life's happenings then the future will not be so bad....or i suppose you could dwell in the past and just not care?
