She is THE singer of our generation...her phrasing is perfect, she doesn't mess up a song with syncopation, she is straight forward in delivery, and she has the better voice to back it up with. She is a phenominon as an artist. Lady Chatalaine is one of my favorite songs. And, she can take anyone else's song and make it her own. Her cover of Roy Orbison was better than Roy's version. Very hard to do. OF my generation, I can only come up with a handful of what I consider truely great singers:
Karen Carpenter, Dusty Springfield, Linda Rhonstadt, KD Lang, Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, and Gladys Knight. These singers have proven to be REAL divas...not the pretenders. My secondary list would have to be Aretha Franklin, Patty LaBelle, Tina Turner, Cher, and believe it or not, Doris Day. (Doris was one of the all time best...her delivery of songs was always true, heart felt, and she had tremendous range of types of songs. Just below my secondary list, I would have to put: Jo Stafford (big band era...great singer), Edith Piaff (no one could deliver emotion as she could), Shirley Bassey, Debra Harry, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Donna Summer. Well, that just about covers who I think have made a lasting impression in the music industry. There are so many more, but they were groups:..Heart, Queen, Journey, Beatles, and the Stones. We do not get this kind of talent today, for the industry is completely hit driven...therefore, artists are not allowed to develope into lasting talent. I have only given my female list, more or less. The men still rule, and there have been several very strong talents there. Good luck

I have all kd's CDs and I can't think of any one that's a favorite.
I have all of Linda Ronstadt, too, and I'm in the same boat with her.
Both these women are truly the best singers of our time.

I'll go with "Trail of Broken Hearts" for now.
