Isolated= Short duration of rain in specific areas. They are a regional(isolated)'
Scattered Thunder Storms=Exactly that. They are not developed Storms, that will have a direct path, like a storm front in the jet stream expected to last very long. They are hit and miss in the areas they are predicted for.

Not sure if this is the correct answer or not, however I would have to say that "isolated" means that the thunder storms are only present in a specific area (an isolated area of a County, State, etc). "Scattered" would have to mean, to me, that they thunderstorms are happening all over the County, State, etc.

isolated storms are farther apart from each other and scattered storms are closer together. so isolated you are likely not to get rain and scattered you are more likely to get rain. sounds weird but herd it on the weather channel. I always thought that isolated meant that it was going to rain straight for a period of time and scattered meant that there would be scattered showers. crazy huh?

Isolated means that it is a single, small storm cell that is out doing it's thing on its own. Usually they are kind of intense.
Scattered means that it is one big cell that has some parts of the cloud cover dropping rain and storm conditions and other areas the may only be dark and cloudy, but they are all one big system.

Isolated means directly located in certain areas only whereas scattered means here and there and all over. Basically 'we don't know where they may or may not be, could be anywhere! " LOL
