I know some people that shave their arms and was thinking about maybe doing it too. I don't have that much hair on my arms but it's pretty dark so i want to... i just don't want to end up regretting it in a couple years. Does it grow back thicker and darker? How long have you been shaving your arms and how often do you have to?

So for those of you that do shave your arms, if you have, for example, a little more than average amount and a little darker hair on your arms, would it look stupid after not shaving them for a week or two? If i try it once.. will it grow back just about normal or will i have to keep doing it?

That's a myth!! Don't believe everything you hear...
***********************************************
Myth: Shaving causes hair to grow back faster, darker and coarser.

Fact: It's just an illusion, according to Dr. Kitha Griffin, an Atlanta dermatologist. "New growth is often sharp-tipped and stubbly, depending on the removal technique," so it may appear bristly, she says. Hair grows independently, unaffected by anything external. Dr. Griffin adds that if this myth were true, all men would have thick dark beards.\
**********************************************************
Hair Removal with Shaving
Shaving is the most temporary method of hair removal because it merely cuts the hair off at the skin surface. Shaving does not make the hair shaft thicker, darker, or grow faster or slower. However, the short hair shaft may be more noticeable as it grows out because it has a blunt tip instead of the normal tapered tip. Shaving should be done after applying some type of moisturizer to the skin to help the razor glide over the skin, not cut or scrape it. Common moisturizers include water, shaving cream, hair conditioner, or body wash.

Shavers and clippers take heart: in your quest for tonsorial perfection, you are not creating a larger problem for yourself through your efforts. Cutting does not stimulate new growth. (If it did, those going bald would be shaving afflicted areas to encourage regrowth of what they're losing.) This belief probably stems from the perception that short hair seems to be tougher than longer hair. Hair expert Philip Kingsley recommends thinking of a bamboo cane: a long cane flexes easily, but the same cane cut short feels harder and tougher. Another reason for the belief resides with the naturally finer ends of uncut hair: compare the end of a long-lived hair with that of a hair recently cut or shaved, and you'll see the one is thicker than the other. That could lead the less-than-careful to conclude that the whole of the hair's shaft became thicker as a result of the hair's being cut (which it didn't) rather than to realize that shaving or cutting results in a blunt termination, whereas natural outgrowth concludes in a tapering.

If you let it grow back after shaving it will look sort of different at first...but after a while it will return to normal (the end will not stay blunt forever)

Try a bleach creme instead. It works great and lasts a long time. And actually, over time it makes your hair thinner/finer. I use Jolen creme bleach and a little box of that will last you quite a long time. You should be able to find it at any drugstore.

PS ~ Don't try shaving. I did that once in high school and think about it, stubble on your arms! NOT good. It didn't grow back thicker or darker but I still wouldn't recommend it. Bleach is best!

Well, I'm a guy, but an arm shaver still. The good thing about it is it's not as frequent as leg shaving--I do it about twice a week. The only downside is about a minute more of shaving time for each arm and that you may get a nick or two the first week.

YES YES YES. I have been shaving my arms for nearly um lets see since 1992. So for like 14 yrs...WOW I'm old..lol..Think of how it feels when you shave your legs. Nice and smooth and they feel cleaner huh. Well that is why I love it. And I have blond hair and has not yet came in thicker or darker yet..so I think I'm good to go..:) I would do it again if I had to make the same choice again! One time shouldn't hurt if you don't end up liking it though.. So yeah I suggest it fully. I shave mine about every other time I shave my legs.. Hope your experience come out like mine did.....

ew its gross my sister did and she regrets it it starts growing in all weird n darker now she gets them waxed but they still look weird but waxing is much better than shaving .. if your hairs are to noticable why dont you just dye them or something to make them appear blonde so they are mostly invisible. if you wax ur arms it takes like 3 weeks to grow in or more depending on the person but shaving you prolly have to do alot and the hair appears thicker and darker so dont try it! even if its a myth that it comes back thicker ..just dont to it pleasee!

I've never done it, and never will. It will grow back thicker and darker (as ALL hair does when you shave it) and just be a pain in the butt. You know how, when you've just shaven your legs and you get chill bumps, you get all prickly again? Do you want that on your ARMS?

I actually did it before. I grows back pretty quickly, but I didn't notice the hair growing back thicker or darker, but I only did it a few times because it was too time consuming. I don't really recommend it, especially if you're not that hairy.

When I was a teen I wanted to because my arm hair was very dark, but as I've gotten a little older (I'm 25) the hair on my arm has turned blond. I don't have blond hair either just as an FYI. Leave it be...you'll regret it if you start.
