How do you determine geographical direction if you are standing on the North Pole? And you can't ask Santa

In other words, what direction is east and what direction is west? Wouldn't every direction be south?

Every direction is south but you still have a bearing that would be a degree as determined by longitude. Besides, your compass would still work because magnetic north is currently in Canada, not on the geographic north pole. You then could just calculate direction from there (although heading towards north on the compass would actually be heading south, however strange that would seem).

Edit: magnetic north is *not* a function of iron deposits in Canada, although such deposits can create localized false readings. The magnetic field of the planet is a function of the molten iron center of Earth and is constantly moving and makes dramatic shifts every few centuries. In my own lifetime the magnetic north has wobbled and slowly tracked west towards Alaska but scientists predict it may soon shift over to Russia in the next few years.

while you're speaking of Geographical North Pole Which i might have faith you're, then like some suggested each and every the place you element could be south, yet this isn't genuine, it would desire to SW, SE , yet once you're status on the "Geo. north pole" then the respond is in the present day south downward in the direction of your feet which if continued might finally end up on the south pole supposedly. So, Direct South i've got faith is the respond.

there is no actual north pole.,There is a large iron deposit in north Canada that your compass would point to. to be honest there are 3 types of north, true north witch is what i believe you to be referring to, magnetic north and map north. It would matter on what your using to determine north in the first place. the only one that you could use to be confused about is magnetic in witch case yes all locations would be south
