Personally I like to use the name of historic football teams. It takes a bit of research but is very interesting. One league I'm in has names of Ohio football teams before 1920 and the other has early NFL and pre NFL teams. I use the same sort of theme in public leagues. For instance I have a team called the Dayton Triangles and another called the Columbus Panhandles (my personal favorite) for football.
