I know you say you don't have time for lessons but...
One of the best things I ever did was to take (Acoustic) Guitar lessons at one of the adult night classes at a local high school in my city.
Granted it was to learn "Folk" guitar where I quickly learned basic chords...but, I was able to play simple songs starting with the very first night.
And it was great being in a class with other "students" ...we helped each other and shared ideas on chord changes and bass riffs not to mention the individualized instruction we all got from the teacher.
Also, it was relatively inexpensive.
Just something to consider.

Guitarnoise.com worked pretty well for me, but it's different for every person. If you want to find a good website, the best thing for you to do is use a search engine and browse a few sites that catch your interest. Trial and error with a few different sites is how i taught myself to play. I also suggest that you get yourself a few beginners books- they're only a few bucks but they are extreeeeemely helpful. Teaching yourself is hard-and it requires alot of work, so good luck! Remember to practice! a few little warm up exersises each day really make the difference.

Start with the site listed below, also follow the link (upper right) to Francois Delcamp's forum where you will find lots of very helpful guitarrists.
If you really need to start from the "picking up the guitar and tuning it" stage email me and I will try to help.

There's this book by Ralph Denyer called "The Guitar Handbook". You should definately hunt down a copy. I wish I would've had it when i was learning.
