This depends entirely on what you need as a person. Do you need a dependent pet or an independent one? If you need a dependent one get a dog, an independent one get a cat. I have both!

Dogs. Especially girl dogs. There is nothing like the affection, love and loyalty that they give you. If you have stress, they are definitely a de-stresser. I've never had a cat but lots of my friends do and I know just from being around them that I could not deal with the "cool" demeanor they have. I want a pet to serve my needs - I don't want to serve their needs. It all depends on your own personality I guess.

Dogs. They are beautiful, graceful, funny and friendly. Unlike cats, they can be trained and they don't have the all-too-true reputation of being self centered as cats do. May I suggest a Wire Fox terrier? They are the best of all worlds. Do your research, you'll fall in love.

dogs. cats are to independant and just lay around. a dog will give love, play with you and want to go for rides, parks, outtings, etc. cats have the spraying and litter box smell. dogs go outside and cat hair is harder to get out than dog hair.
