No...it is futher down in the drain. I tried an augger but it wont help because its not cutting through the plastic.

I had to make a hook out of a piece of wire hanger to do this one time. I made a small hook on the end, pushed it in beside the cap and then turned it under the edge on the bottom. It came out on the first try.
I would say NOT to melt it. If you try melting it, you're likely to end up with a glob of plastic a little further down your drain and that would take major work to get out.

There is a screw grabber type of tool that has a plunger on one end and four claw like fingers on the other. You can get em' up to about 3' long. Mechanics use em' for picking screws out of hard to get places when they drop them in an engine. Push the plunger down and the fingers open. Pull the plunger up and the fingers close down and grasp. Work it slowly back and forth till it breaks the stuck cap free and lifts out.
You might want to use a coat hanger cut into a long hook to loosen it first. Then pull it out. If you can't get screw grabber (above)
Might try using duct tape so sticky side is out on the end of the hook after you loosen the cap in the throat of pipe, to stick to the duct tape so it can be lifted out too.
You'll get it. Hang in there and think about what you need to do. It'll lift out. Don't use heat and don't force it down any further in your efforts. Succes to you!

Did the same thing... I used a screw driver to try and get under it, without it going further down and used needle nose pliers to get it out the rest of the way... good luck!!

Use a screw driver to bend in the side then grab with eyebrow tweezers or eye brow pluckers

i use a pair of scissors to grab it and pull it out pliers wont help

Needlenose pliers or the long long tweezers, you can buy them in the pharmacy.

use a piece of gum on your finger or grab it with a pair of pliers

Poke a hole in it.
Put a drywall or large thread screw in it and pull it out with plyers.
