Ha ..hell yea its all those suburban housewives who are so unhappy with their little marriages and their white picket fences. Staying at home all day, cooking and cleaning and tending after the kids ...if you ask me that's a pretty depressing life and you have to do something to get over the pain that is your life. I mean its either you take an antidepressant or you take some al-chi-hol every morning with your breakfast..Ha lol... but seriously though yes I do believe that Americans take the most pills for everything..whether it be an antidepressant or a get-thin-quick-pill..in this country their is a remedy for everything that comes in one tiny little pill.

Because our country is in a depressing state of affairs and our jobs require us to put on fake smiles to keep other people from having to take antidepressants.

Because we think all our problems are caused by some disease, some disorder, some problem we can't solve ourselves. So we turn to things like antidepressants. No one wants to take charge of their life.

Advertising and marketing, helps. The medical pro's here in the USA have tremendous financial motivation to continue prescribing these drugs.... Usually its a lifelong Rx. Monthly maintenance visits to refill and check progress of patient, etc.

We work more, get in more trouble, have an unacceptable amount of busy-ness and stress in our every day lives than we should have, we have more hatred in this country that spreads around like wildfire, we have more greedy money-mongers that creep around trying to decieve people into thinking that the drug is the answer...just to name a few....there are so many more reasons!

The drug companies push antidepressants so hard in America.
It is a capitalistic country, so large corporations thrive by selling us things that they made us believe we need.

Yes - but only because no other country allows drug companies to advertise directly to consumers. It's become a pill-driven culture.
