The age is 65 or older, unless you are disabled and getting SSI disability.
And then you will qualify for medicare 24 months from the time you are approved.

You can qualify at any age.
However the younger you are, the more difficult it is. But then if you are that young and in need of Medicare, then you'd better be pretty disabled/ill to qualify. It's not uncommon for people (under the age of 56) to apply several times until they are approved. Yet I know of someone who is disabled from a work injury and was approved the first time.
A LOT depends upon how you fill out the original paperwork, and what your doctor(s) say. If your doctors back you up 100% and you fill the papers out good, then you may be good. Also SSD will probably send you to one of their doctors for an examination.

Disabled individuals qualify for medicare no matter what their age if their disability is significant.
Other than that, 65.
