I'm down... I support any cause that frees the twins... in fact I argue strongly in favor of the free the twins platform as a political lobbyist....

I have a dream that twins of all shapes and sizes colors and creeds will be freed from confinement... on that day... bouncing together in unbridled bountiful joy... a cry will go out....

Free at last... free at last... thank god almighty... the twins are free at last....

Just cos need the points think might as well meet your cheeky chappy Q by taking ya by the collar lapels and explaining why bras were burnt in the first place..

Cos men expect women to have perfectly seperated, rounded, c+ cup, pert etc breasts.. there is no muscle in that area - only behind it meaning that for most, whether just through normal aging or inherited design this is a tall/unachievable order..

So the burning of bras was to burn the contraption which helped modestly endowed women give the illusion of bigger, bigger the illusion of pertness etc etc - IT IS ALL AN ILLUSION..

Look at page 3 - always 'girls' (lol not women) they are all endowed within a very small spectrum.. petite, young women with similar breasts.. hardly a celebration of female form at all but more a yardstick by which the rest of the population (along with numerous other ads, mags, images etc) feels inadequate..

If tabloids really wanted to celebrate female body then why not show all ages, all shapes, all sizes, mastectomy patients, those with uneven breasts, those with inverted nipples - whatever..just anything rather than the same old same old.

Glance at the shelves in the supermarket where the lads mags fhm, heat and the like are.. if you lobbed off the head on each model (with her ready, willing airbrushed pout) it would be the same (yawn) androgenous hips/out of propotion chest and almost impossible to tell any differences between them..

So yeah - great idea - burn the bra girls and see if this time it means you can accept who YOU are and NOT be intimidated into getting surgery to be some lad ideal..

Hello! I am a feminist and former activist....you need to first off use the term, woman not girls here...and the "burn your bra" stuff was never a part of the feminist movement..that was a bunch of media crap.
The real truth of being a feminist is soley that women are just as fully human as men..unfortunately in this day and age throughout the world but especially in the USA women are still regarded for the most part, as not as fully human. Supposedly we have full rights but like many laws on the books, that is questionably enforced. We are paid much less STILL, not given the top positions STILL, and most importantly a very large segment of both men and women continue to feel women are inferior in many ways.
This is an unfortunate situation for both men and women as those women who have talents not supported by society may suffer a life that is very unfullfilling, society will never benefit from their unfulfilled dreams, and quite often highly intelligent but dream broken women will sabbatoge everyone who is getting succesfull in life!
So think of that when you offend a woman next! think of all those women with their broken lives and unfullfilled dreams...and then think how would men feel if they were subjected to the same? That is exactly how these women feel. (For example, imagine Eistein not being allowed to do the things he did...how would he feel being only allowed to think and do very limited things...that is exactly what has happened to many brilliant women!)
The USA is extremely backward still aboutr women's rights. That is because traditionally the US is a very conservative country and continues to be so...we have yet to have a female president and people still question whether we should even have one.
Both men and women need to be respected for who they are. True, many will find their ultimate fullfillment in life by doing what would be deemed work that is typical for their sex. But many do not fit that mold. Let's throw away that mold and make room for development of all humans..male and female.
Begin by realizing your own true talents...they will not be found by running your life according to TV shows or Hollywood movies. (Though I find both very entertaining!). Reality is a deeper trip than that and actually far more exciting because you get to live it not live through someone else!

im all for that, though nipples will be sore. but are you hoping that feminist minded (which of course is code for equality minded) guys should do something reciprocal, like wear a bra or not wear briefs? in order to participate and show their (political) support? if so then there should be a national 'wear no underwear to work day' or a 'wear another gender's undergarment to work' day. wait i'm being juvenile. burning your bra means releasing yourself from male expections of feminine vanity standards. suddenly i'm sure i have no idea what i'm talking about. help me out here.

Actually I think it's time for a new feminism.

The original movement simply gave women the opportunity to do the same things as men. This was good in its way as it opened up a whole new raft of opportunities and experiences to women who had previously been denied them. On the other hand, this aroused certain expectations of what women should want to achieve with their lives. Women are now expected to want to have high powered careers, and certainly many of my friend have complained that they feel undervalued because they want to be traditional housewives.

A new feminism needs to make sure that traditionally female roles (housekeeping, caring for the children and elderly) are as valued as traditional male roles (career etc) and both opportunities should be open to both sexes without fear of social stigma.

I do believe it's time for people to collectively speak up. But as far as women's rights go, here's a new twist. All my life it's been a running joke about how if a woman can't open a mayonnaise jar, she hands it to hubby & he has no trouble with it. Well, the other day, hubby handed me the new style of mayonnaise because he couldn't open it.

Maybe in the Arab World or Iran or Afghanistan but the United States is now a Matriarchal society.

Nah. I think not.
Think about it sensibly. In 5 years time all the women who burnt their bras now would have nipples half way to their knees. Not very attractive (Not to mention painful).

I tried burning my bra first time round. It was so small it hardly made a spark, haven't worn one since.

I'm a guy and I'm all for the bra burning.....

However, I recommend still shaving your legs. Civil rights is no justification for unattractiveness. lol
