I own a 92 pontiac sunbird. Due to prior ownership, the windshield is leaking and the trunk is rusting out. The car only has 118k miles on it and the engine is in good shape. I'd like to keep that car, but I'm not sure how to take care of either these problems. Are there things I can do to keep my trunk from rusting further and the windshield to stop leaking? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Don't bother with the get a new car comment that's not the kind of information I'm looking for.

Fix the windshield before it starts a mildew problem with your carpet or shorts something out and causes you real headaches. As far as a quick fix you could just caulk the leaking area it won,t be pretty but it will stop the leak at least temporarily and as for the trunk it would be impossible to say without seeing it.I guess you could just sand it and spray some primer on it to slow it down a little.

OK now to fix the issue. Usually the windshield has a trim piece or a chrome trim...Carefully remove this. Do this after you go to the auto parts store and pick up some......Windshield sealant! Don't do the silicone route as the trim will need to be restuck to the sealant which is also an adhesive. Don't over do it, a small bead arount the top and sides of the windshield will do it. Make sure you get it against the glass and the existing seal.....then when you re-attach the trim use some painters tape which has less stickum and can be easily removed after 24-48 hours.
The trunk should not be just primered this will make it come back. WORSE as you just mask the problem. Remove the lining in the trunk and go by an auto parts supplier and pick up a bottle of....I think it is Rust Bullet but the product changes the reaction of the rust and turns the metal black which kills the rust. Then you can primer and paint. Look at the seal around the trunk make sure it is in good shape you should see contact all the way around or maybe the rear glass is also leaking.....but then you alreay have the sealant so seal the rear glass also.......Good Luck

if you got the money you can take it to a body shop . Otherwise on the windshield you could put silicone around it to t\stop the leaking ,it might not look the best but it will work. and get paint primer for the rust

Windshield, as you really need that, you could live without the trunk for a while longer!
