i just finished reading the Goblet of Fire again. i noticed that while Harry was in the graveyard Voldemort said something (on page 651). He said that six death-eaters were missing. three of whom were dead due to his service. One of them too much of a coward to return he will pay. another has left him forever , he will die . and the third who is his most faithful servant to already reentered .

my qt. is that who are these three death-eaters???
my thoughts are karkaroff(sp?) was the coward or the one who left , and of coure crouch (son) who was the faithful servant . who is the other one ??

your ideas!!

The first one, who was too much of a coward, was Karkaroff, because its noted in the text that he ran away. The one who died in his service was Crouch. The other was Snape, because it wasn't until later that Voldemort realized Snape hadn't left Hogwarts at the time so he wouldn't blow his cover [that is, if you believe Snape really is on Voldemort's side - otherwise he waited until Dumbledore told him to go. Either way, Voldemort innitially thinks he is a traitor, since Snape wasn't charged with any deatheater activites because Dumbledore told the court that he had gone to the 'good side' before the end of the war. It isn't until Snape comes to Voldemort later that he realizes Snape is still on his side].

I definitely Say that Snape, Karkaroff and, Crouch are the three missing. But what if it was this way:
Snape: as the coward because he's been working for Dumbledore the past 14 years and doesn't know what Voldemort will do when he does return. (Even if he says he's pretending to spy and had to still convince Dumbledore to let him leave etc - Snape would have to be scared that he never did anything to help bring back Voldemort and he could've worried about Voldemort's reaction to his return.)
Karkaroff: the one who left Voldemort's service forever. Karkaroff would have known that by turning in Death Eaters he could have never gone back to Voldemorts service. Although he would have been scared of Voldemort's return because he would have to deal with punishment (if he couldn't hide from Voldemort) - he would have known he'd never be welcomed back to the group thus making him gone from Voldemort's service forever.
Crouch: Definitely who Voldemort would consider his most faithful servant because he did actually suffer for being a death eater but also tried to find voldemort after his stint in Azkaban. Crouch knew that Voldemort valued him above the others because of what he did and was willing to do for him

These are just my personal way of giving a different answer. It could be wrong but I thought I would just try and look at things in a different light.

Ok here's my take on the three Death Eaters: The one who was too much of a coward was Karkaroff, the one who left him forever was/is Snape (at this point Snape really wasn't having to rush to Voldemort's side when called, and I think that Voldemort was doubting his allegiance. Hence, what happens in book six), and the last faithful servant was Crouch Jr.

As a first thought I would say Snape too, yet I get a feeling it might be a surprise left for the last book. Someone we don't expect maybe...

We know for certain it is Snape, because Snape bears the Dark Mark.
